Pendragon Contracts goes the extra mile for Cancer Research
20/05/2010
Following a gruelling 147 mile cycle ride from Sunderland to Whitehaven, Alan Hillier, marketing and data leader at Pendragon Contracts, along with three team mates have raised an impressive £1,600 on behalf of Cancer Research. Inspired by the memory of his father and a passion for the worthy cause, Hillier and his brother Brian, along with friends Peter Drugan and Michael Armstrong, set out to conquer the infamous sea to sea expedition on Good Friday, arriving at their destination on Easter Sunday.
The route included steep climbs over The Pennines, reaching heights of 2000 feet above sea level, and a view across some of the most spectacular countryside in England. The first day of the legendary route began with back wheels dipped in the North Sea and a 45 mile cycle through the mining towns of Northumberland. Day two tackled 60 miles of hills and Hartside peak, on to a descent into Cumbria on day three. The final marker was Whitehaven harbour and the shore of the Irish Sea.
Alan Hillier, marketing and data leader at Pendragon Contracts, says: ‘Cancer Research is a great charity dedicated to beating cancer. Its research has really helped toward improved survival rates for cancer which have doubled in the last 30 years. However, too many lives are still devastated by cancer. When considering the work they do, facing snow, blizzards and crippling hill climbs is the least we could do in support.’
A team of three pricing specialists from the Pendragon Contracts team, have also been raising funds for charity, choosing to take part in the six mile Sport Relief run at Derby Athletics Centre on 21st March 2010. Ben Hamnett, Ben Redmore and Craig Pullen raised over £700 to help transform the lives of poor and vulnerable people, both at home and across the world’s poorest countries.
